Alternative Technologies
For Direct Product Marking
- Products can be tagged with materials such as small molecules, pigments, nucleic acids, magnetic particles, or isotopes; tags are detected by sensors designed specifically for that tag.
- Products can be marked by laser etching on their surfaces.
- Small particles, or “taggants” of various shapes and colors, with or without patterns on their surfaces, can be placed on or within a product.
Considerations For Choice Of Marking Technology:
- Markers should not interfere with the function (or the security) of the marked product.
- Markers should have the same service life as the marked product.
- The entire marking system should not significantly increase the price of the marked product.
